On October 30, another rich list, 2008 Forbes China Rich List, was released in Shanghai on which Liu Yonghang, a fodder and aluminum tycoon, is acclaimed as the richest Chinese with RMB 20.4 billion. Seven richest persons in Chongqing appear on the list. And Zuo Zongshen, with his family fortune of RMB 2,210 million, ranks in the163rd place (187th in last year). Compared to the “2008 Hurun China Rich List” released earlier, the number of rich persons in Chongqing is 10 persons less. At the same time, the fortunes of the persons in the list sharply shrink. The family fortune of Mr. Zuo Zongshen, for example, was estimated to have RMB 3 billion on 2008 Hurun China Rich List, but is only RMB 2,210 million on this list. Forbes accounts for the gap as a result of the impact of financial crisis, which deducted the wealth loss caused by stock price decrease. It is reported that the total wealth of the 400 tycoons on 2008 Forbes China Rich List have reduced by 45% from RMB 2,157.7 billion of last year to RMB 1,174.4 billion of this year and, the average amount of their fortunes had slumped from RMB 5,400 million of last year to RMB 2,940 million of this year. On this list, iron and steel industry creates the most number of rich people - 28 persons, including 11 new faces, are from steel industry. On the press conference, Mr. Fan Luxian, the List Maker of Forbes China Rich List, said, “The global financial crisis, economic slowdown, appreciation of RMB and the enforcement of the new labor law are jointly attacking one of the pillars of China’s economy – export trade. In addition, to respond to real estate bubbles, the government is now promoting a tight credit policy. All these factors jointly lead to a serious reduction. |
